About Me

Introduction

My name is Emily Hird and I live in the beautiful county of North Yorkshire, England. I'm 19 years old and am passionate about becoming fully healthy again and inspiring others to do the same.
I love Jesus, baking, reading, writing, flowers, animals, singing/playing my guitar, photography, and last but not least, my gorgeous golden retriever Jessie :)

My Story

After years of having epilepsy and a sudden diagnosis of non epileptic seizures in March 2014 caused by stress and trauma, I had to leave college and found it hard to do everyday normal things. For the next month or so, everyday was the same and I felt powerless, unable to do much of anything. Even the simple things were hard, and everything seemed to be falling apart around me; my health, my education, and my relationships.

With so much spare time on my hands, I decided to put it to good use, combining all the things I love most. And having taken an extra special interest in health and nutrition, I came to the conclusion that if there was nothing the doctors could do for me, I'd have to heal myself, the natural way. There were so many things that I wanted to do in life, and I couldn't do them if I was always unwell. It made sense to me that for my mind to heal properly, I needed to feed my body the nutrients it needed to do so. I believe in the powerful gift of nature and that God has given us all the things we need to live a happy, healthy, life so we can do all the amazing things we desire to do.

My Diet

On this journey I have seen first hand the difference a diet full of whole foods can make to our lives, and although I have been a vegetarian since I was born, in the past year I have begun to realise and understand what being healthy truly means. I eat a mostly plant based diet full of fresh fruit & veg, nuts, seeds, grains, beans, fresh juices/smoothies, and free of dairy.

My Baking

I have always loved to bake but only recently decided it is something that I would seriously like to do. In the near future (hopefully the next few years) I plan on setting up my own cake business and so that is the motivation that makes me more determined to get better. In the meantime, I created this blog to share how easy and beautifully wonderful being healthy can be, as well as a place to post some delicious cake inspiration! All my baking is mostly a healthier approach, being mostly free of dairy and refined sugars. I believe that eating better doesn't mean that we have to miss out on the pleasure of wonderful baked treats and it can still be fun!

I hope you have a fabulous time re-creating my recipes:)

Lots of love,

Emily X
